Yep, I'm set in my ways

I am pretty set in my ways.  I’m the kind of person that can get mildly annoyed when things don’t get put back in the same place every time. If you believe in astrology, it's a Virgo thing.  The flashlight goes where the flashlight goes, period.  I shouldn’t have to search for it next time I want it.  So, a fella that is so set in his ways, a fella like me who has to have the same stuff in the same place all the time or go bananas, must have a lot of seasonal traditions, right?  Clean the gutters every October first, monsters in the yard for Halloween by the 15th of October, stuff like that, right?  Oddly enough, nope.  Not at all.

Way back when my Wife and I met, it became clear to me that she and I were not even in the same zip code on the issue of everything having it’s place. Not even close.  To my wife, as long as things are put away, somewhere, they are away, and that’s all that matters. She may not remember where she put stuff, but she doesn’t mind looking for the flashlight, or her keys, or her glasses, or her phone.   I, on the other hand, check to make sure I have my keys, my wallet, and my phone every single time I stand up, neurotic as it may seem.  I am sure my emphasis on putting stuff away annoys my Wife to no end.  It doesn’t do me any good as far as my Wife goes though. None at all.  She puts stuff where she is gonna put it, and there is nothing I can do about it.   I can’t help it, I have to try to get her see it my way, but ultimately I have had to learn to live with things her way. Nothing the same way twice, forget about seasonal traditions.  In the end though, as long as we remember that this stuff means nothing if we still have each other, we will be fine.  Fall tradition? If I have one at all, it would be sitting with my wife in front of a camp fire on a clear fall night with a bit of chill in the air…..with no set schedule.  We can clean up the mess and put stuff away later.
