Valentine's day

Valentine's day has a long and rich tradition.  From the days of Chaucer in England, to poems written by no less than Shakespeare himself, to millions of red roses sent all over the world at ridiculously inflated prices, this holiday has a place in the hearts of Billions.  I just aint one of them.  Back in elementary school, when we all gave out secret Valentine cards, I never got that life altering card so many of you probably did.  I never had such a huge crush on the little girl in the third row that I simply could not function.  If I had a story or two from my adulthood, (I am not admitting that I do)  I could not share them here for fear of them being a bit on the risque side, as I suspect is a pretty common circumstance for lots of folks.  So, what are we left with then? This is supposed to be My Life,  My Story, right?   Well, our first grandchild was born on February 15th.  I remember our Daughter Angel hoping with all the might a 4 foot 11 girl can muster that the baby not be born on Valentine's day.  She got her wish.  Samantha, our beautiful Granddaughter,  was born on the 15th.  Our second Daughter got married on the 15th (in a different year).  Aw......shucks.  Aint that special?  I am sure they preferred the 14th, but the 15th was a better day to book a church, so they probably count the 14th as a day to celebrate.
I may not have a particular story to tell, but I do have a little tradition.  I have 4 daughters, and one wife.  On Valentine's day, I have always made sure, no matter how poor we were, to get a gift of some sort for each of them. Even if it is just some life savers or a candy bar.  They are all special girls to me.   I don't know if that is in the proper Valentine's day tradition, since I never had that life altering Valentine's day experience in my youth, but it works for me.  I remember spending one Valentines day waiting for a baby and one setting up for a wedding, but for the most part, Valentine's day's are just a little excuse for me to remind the 5 special ladies in my life that I still love them.  That is enough for me.
