My favorite memory in recent past
My favorite memory is a selfish memory....a personal one...but one I would love to share.
In March of 1984, I was lucky enough to marry the love of my life, Carol. Through thick and thin, 4 daughters and 8 Grandkids so far, we have remained a happy couple. Our kids can be warped and sneaky like Good ol' Dad, or loving like Mama, as the situation suits them. In March of 2009, our Daughters decided to prove just how sneaky they could be......I am sure you already see it coming, right? They put together a surprise 25th anniversary party for Carol and I.
They rounded up hundreds of old family pictures without either of us catching on, (and copied them), for huge collages. They designed , printed, and sent invitations to all the family and friends they could think of. The way they worked together as a team could almost make a normally grouchy old Dad like me tear up with admiration. Sure, we had a great party, and we were happy to be there. Sure, we were thankful for the friends and family that attended. To us, there could not have been a better party in the whole world. Not because of the money spent, or the location, or any of that trivial stuff, but because of what it took to pull it off.
What I will remember most, and what I admired most, was that all 4 of our Daughters worked together to accomplish a common goal. They got the party put together and all the details handled personally, nothing "contracted out", and yet, they all came out of the experience without major injury. And the best part is they proved once again they are clever and sneaky, (I like to think that is inherited from the "Ol' Man"), and enjoy slipping one past the parents after all these years.
Our daughters, as most siblings are prone to do, do not always work together smoothly, but they still love each other. They can work as a team. I hope they learned some of that from my Wife Carol and I. I would almost hate to know how much they had to fight to pull off a party like the one they gave us, but it might have been fun to listen to the highlights...I guess Mama and I did alright.
