Fave Christmas from my childhood

Christmases from my Childhood seem to mix together in my mind.  The colored lights, the snow to play with outside, the anticipation of the miracle of.......  Santa Claus. Lots of presents , or maybe just a few that seemed like a lot, for 2 hopeful little boys .  Weeks of anticipation followed by one morning of bouncing between  joy and hope, and most importantly, Love.

Our family lived on the South Side of Lafayette the whole time my brother Craig and I were growing up.  Dad worked at Alcoa, and Mom worked at home most of our childhood, as was common at the time.  Craig and I are only 15 months apart, so we asked Santa for a lot of the same stuff.  We played with the same toys. He broke mine, I broke his......(we never seemed to have unbroken toys for long at our house.....).  For us, in the late 1960's (when we were still under 7 or 8), there was nothing like the wonder of Christmas.  Santa was miraculous.  No matter how little we seemed to have at the time, or how much, Santa always found a way to leave something for those 2 under-appreciative little boys on South 18th St.  We never could figure out how Santa got down our chimney when we really didn't have one, but he always did.

Do I remember special presents?  Do I remember special Christmas feasts, with lots of pastries and candy?  I suppose we got those, but none stand out in my mind. Do I remember doing without when Alcoa was on strike or layoff?  Not really.....but I am sure we probably did.

So, why are all the Christmases of my youth my favorite?  Because our Mom and Dad loved us, and they always did the very best they could to make Christmas a magical time for their 2 little boys.  If the presents were small, we did not notice as much.  If the "feast" was smaller, we would still be just as full.  I am convinced the love was enough to make it all magical.  This year, my little Brother and I will still be lucky enough to have Christmas with our parents.  I hope I can remember to thank them for creating the wonder of Christmas for us...as though Thanks are ever gonna be enough.  My Favorite childhood Christmas?  All 46 of them (so far)!
