If I could live in another time in History

Funny how we always say the previous generation had it easier, that times were simpler.  I don't know if that is true, but it might be fun to try it. I have never really wanted to live anywhere else, so the "where" would not change, but as to living in another era, If  I could take my whole family back in time with me, I could be happy almost anywhere, any time.  When would I live? The "Great Depression" is out. My parents and grandparents did that, and more power to them for surviving it.  Prior to that, most folks didn't even have indoor plumbing. Yuck.  But, going back to the 40's or 50's might be fun.

Back then, the economy was good.  There were jobs for folks willing to work.  One income could usually sustain a family. The cars were possible to maintain yourself for most families.  I was born in the early 1960's, so I remember many things today's society thinks we can't live without. I remember stuff like the political, social, and musical revolutions of the 60s and early 70s.  Welfare, Medicare, and most of our Equal Opportunity laws were passed in my lifetime. During my life, there have been several political scandals, including a president who resigned in disgrace. I remember the end of the draft (your Government used to force men into the military, whether they wanted to go or not).  I saw the gasoline shortages and recession in the 70's. I have seen politicians become representatives of a party, always voting the party line, not representatives of their constituents.  On the good side, I remember the emerging popularity of  home computers, microwave ovens, cel phones, and several other conveniences.  When I was growing up, if you missed a show on TV, you were out of luck until the re-run.  You could not see movies at all unless you went to the theater and saw them.  I have seen Video tapes come and go, to be replaced by DVDs, and now Blu-Ray.  Of course, some really great music was created in my lifetime, and if I lived in a different era, I would miss it. Going back a generation would lose the good stuff along with the bad from my lifetime, and lose the benefits of the '50's. Decent trade though. I'm not saying it would be easier, or better, but I'd give it a shot.
