Toughest lesson to learn in school

Doesn’t the best advice usually come from a hard lesson someone had to learn? Sure, Momma always told you stuff like “don’t touch that, it’s hot”, but some moron actually had to learn the hard way not to touch an open flame. So, what lessons did we learn in school that we really needed in life? I have a couple for ya.
First lesson: You were right, you will never really need to know what year the war of 1812 was fought, but sometimes the lesson is in the concept. So, if you swore you were wasting time in math class when it went into anything more complicated than counting change, you were missing the point. Math trains your brain to use sound logic. It isn’t all about the actual math problem. I may not ever need to figure out the hypotenuse of some obscure angle in my daily life, but the logic we learn in math can be used every day. How about “If a=b, and b=c, then a=c”? It’s more than math, it’s logic. Logic that even a redneck like me can use.
Here is how this logic applies: If a part fits a ’79 Nova, and also fits a ’91 Caddy, and the part from the ’91 Caddy also fits an ‘86 Buick, then it stands to reason that the part off of the Nova will fit the Buick. See? All that math had a use!
The second lesson I learned in school is the concept that some kids will never be accepted by the “in crowd”, no matter how hard they try, simply because they aren’t as pretty, or as athletic, or as rich. This is a tough concept to learn when you are a kid. Unfortunately, if you are the outcast, you will have to learn this lesson, whether momma prepared you for it or not. If you are one of the “in crowd” chances are you will never learn it. Still, there is a lesson in it. By being the outcast kid, I had to learn to accept hard work as it’s own reward, and not to rely on positive feedback or acceptance from others to define my value in this world.
So take these two simple lessons from yer Ol' buddy Scotty to heart, Kids. I am the moron who had to learn this stuff the hard way.
