Got a fall tradition??

Fall tradition? Oddly enough, I don’t think I have one, at least not in the traditional sense. Let's think through it together . Got a sec?
Sure, I have tried the occasional bonfire, or cookout. They are a lot of fun sometimes, but are a lot of work if you are the one throwing the party, and I am too lazy for all that work. Just not worth it most years. So…..no tradition there.
Rake leaves? Not if I can avoid it. Yeah, the smell is great (unless you run into doggie doo-doo), and the exercise is good for ya, but I’d rather mow the leaves into mulch, or hire a grandkid to rake ‘em. Stuff has to be fun to be a good tradition, and raking leaves is more work than fun for an ol’ fat boy like me.
I kinda like working on old cars, and cars… especially older ones like the quarter million mile Jeep I drive… require winterization every year. Again, if I HAVE to do it, or if it requires much work on my part, yeah I will do it every fall, buy I don’t really consider it a “tradition” .
How about a nice walk in the woods then? Observe the beauty of nature, the colors of fall? OK, that is fun, or can be, and not a lot of work, but I kinda take the woods for granted I suppose. “Big city” folks look at the woods as some sort of anomaly , a rarity, a vacation spot. I look at the woods as the back yard. Big deal. Kinda neat, but not some tradition I look forward to every year.
Wait!! I know what yer sayin’… What about it “Biker Boy”? No Harley rides to take in the fall scenery? OK, ya got me there. For those of you that don’t read these essays regularly, I am the proud owner of a large, loud motorcycle. I suppose, if I have a tradition at all, it is grabbing Mama on a nice evening, or maybe a weekend, and just going “vagabond”, mindlessly riding where the whim of the moment takes us. Hey, you are right, maybe that is a tradition…..and you know what? Even if it is my only tradition, I can live with that!!
