Vacation?

I have always wanted to spend a few days at Mardi Gras.  Stop at the local party supply store, grab a few cases of those cheap beads the kids love so much in New Orleans, and head out on a road trip.  No rest, no relaxation, all recreation 24/7 till we drop.  Yessir, that's the ticket.  Problem is, I never did it. Probably never will.    I have never rented that remote cabin that takes a heavy duty 4 wheel drive truck and 1/2 a day's drive to get to from the next civilized location. Never packed up and went to London either. Never traveled outside the Continental US at all.  By the time my "vacation" rolls around each year, I have plans of fixing all that stuff around the house I have been putting off all year.  I always figure I will just relax.  No pressure from work.  Putter around the house.  Maybe grab Mama,  hop on the Harley and take off for a day or two, no rules, no plans.  Things never seems to work out the way I plan them (or don't plan them) though.  Something always breaks unexpectedly, or something requires the money we were going to spend. I suppose we all have to live our lives the best way we know how, and along the way, try to do a few things to keep us sane, to make us happy, to recharge our mental batteries, so to speak. We may have to settle for those things as our "vacations".  I am happy where I am in life, happy with my wife, our kids, our grandkids.  If I need to recharge the batteries a bit, I will start a conversation with one of the little ones. That is always worth a few smiles.  So whatever a vacation is to you, whatever definition fits, whether it is a nonstop party, an isolated cabin in the woods, or a few days with no clock and no schedule, I hope you enjoyed it, no matter what happened along the way, unexpected or not.  I guess, the way I see it, the worst vacation is the one you never took. No matter what it was.
