Food Glorious food!
Food.....Don't we all love food? As a confirmed, self-confessed "fat guy", I suppose I love food as much as anybody. Probably too much, hence the powerfully "large in the middle" shape I have. The older and fatter I get, the tighter my clothes get. I was always a chubby kid, but Mom watched our diet pretty well. Mom cooked all our meals pretty much from scratch, or maybe "semi-homemade". We rarely ate carry out food. Mom tried to feed us healthy food and stay in a budget at the same time, and she did a pretty good job, but you know what? I really learned to hate some of that stuff. To this day, I would rather miss a meal than eat chicken ala king or a pot pie. I craved the "bad" food. Gimme Pizza. Biscuits and gravy. Taters. Slick meat sammiches. It is human nature I suppose, but we all crave what we don't have in one way or another, don't we? Whether it is the budget controlling my dietary plans, or a concerned Wife or Mom, I get kinda like ol' Herman Munster from TV when deprived of certain food for very long. Remember the "Herman goes on a diet" Episode? Herman wanted to drop a few pounds to fit into an old uniform, so he goes on a vitamin and water diet. Problem is, the diet comes at Thanksgiving time. Hermey got so agitated at the thought of missing out on all that food, they had to strap him a gurney while he chanted "turkey and cranberry sauce, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, biscuits oozing with melted butter ". Yep. that's me. Too big to fit in my old clothes, and drooling over any mention of food I am not supposed to have. I have gotten used to "Diet" sodas, and alternative sweeteners in most stuff.........but as soon as you tell me I can't have Pizza, I am off to papa Johns or Arni's. As long as my wife isn't there to stop me, I am just liable to stop and get biscuits and gravy every single morning. What is my favorite food? Seems like it has always been whatever I am not supposed to have. Gotta go.....Is there an Arni's close by?
