Tory or rebel? Which would you have likely been in 1775?

Scotty a Tory?  Not a chance. I don’t appreciate  anybody assuming they are better than me, or smarter, or more deserving. I resent being forced to do things by a self-serving and suppressive government. Oh wait, that is today… but back in the late 1700’s,  the same rules applied. Kings and Queens, by nature and definition, are assumed to be better than me, smarter than me, more able to make decisions about me, than…ME!  Hogwash! In those days, the government told you how to pray, and to whom, and expected you to follow the religion they created under penalty of death.  (Did you notice I said “created”?, Yep, created.  They made it up as they went along to suit whatever hedonistic behavior the rulers wanted to allow for themselves, but disallow for you). Their motto was “God, King, and Country”, or some similar rallying cry designed to make toothless morons feel like they are doing the right thing by following blindly like so many sheep. (That is a generalization  to make a point, but in actuality, the masses were uneducated on purpose, and 80% couldn’t even read)  The only “God” you were to honor was the one the King approved, in the manner the King approved, under penalty of death. Not such a great deal if you can think for yourself, or read the Bible, (or any other religious text), for yourself and are capable of drawing an adult conclusion for yourself. And then there were the taxes.  HUGE taxes.  Taxes to support the King and his friends in luxury while you are starving. And your opinion did not matter.  You had no say in the decisions being made. (Sound familiar?)
Still, I bet most people don’t mind being “led” very much, so  choosing between Tory and Rebel was a  probably a tough decision for most of the American colonists back in the day. Nobody wants to start a revolution.  Rebels almost always die, or at least lose. To become a Rebel. you have to be pushed to a point where it is better to die than live under the current conditions. Besides, Torries were just being loyal to the ruling British government.  Nothing wrong with loyalty, is there? In my mind there is, if you being loyal is in any way keeping me from being free.
Count Ol' Scotty a Rebel!!
